Artists of the Superstitions
Artists of the Superstitions was originally formed in March of 2007 as the Gold Canyon Artists Group, a group of artists living and working in the Gold Canyon and Apache Junction areas of Arizona.
The three founding members were: Faith Rein, Kathy Seery, and Sandra Mayville. These three original members encouraged others to attend an introductory meeting at an artist's home resulting in a beginning membership of about ten. From this small beginning, artists were drawn to the group and now number over 35 artists.
We are a diverse group representing an interesting array of art mediums. The membership produces and presents work in watercolor and oil painting, photography, wood turning, pottery, copper, jewelry, murals, three dimensional art (including gourds and masks), and much more.
Inspired by the Superstition Mountains, the imposing landmark that is part of our daily lives, we changed the name of the group from the Gold Canyon Artists Group to Artists of the Superstitions in January of 2008.
In May of 2008, steps were taken to further organize the group and a steering committee of five was establlished. This committee was formed from two of the founding members and an additonal three appointed members. The structure will allow us to grow and increase the value of the Artists of the Superstions to other artists and to the surrounding community.

The Superstition Mountains are an integral part of the lore of the Lost Dutchman Mine and Jacob Waltz, a German immigrant. Waltz claimed to have found an old Mexican gold mine containing wide veins of almost pure gold... but he took its secret location with him to his grave! Movies and books abound with the lore of the Superstitions and those who followed the gold... even to the present day.
For the artists who live here, our inspiration comes from the beautiful mountains and the changing topography. While hot in summer, and sometimes snow in winter, the spring brings – with the right amount of rain – cactus and wildflowers exploding with boundless color.
Our website introduces our artists and our club to the community. We welcome your participation and comment.
